Lasting Powers of Attorney

We are often approached by clients worried about what will happen to them in the future if, for example, through frailty, disability, loss of mental capacity, illness, etc, they can no longer cope with their finances and/or make decisions about their day-to-day care/welfare/living arrangements. Can the client, whilst still mentally capable, choose a person (called an attorney) who, in the event of the client no longer being able to cope or make decisions, can take control of and manage the client’s property and affairs/welfare and make decisions on the client’s behalf?

Client should consider doing a Lasting Power of Attorney and registering it with the Office of the Public Guardian.

The Office of the Public Guardian promotes decision making for those who lack capacity or would like to plan for their future.
